The fear of pain during surgery is one of the most common reasons patients delay cataract treatment. Fortunately, modern advancements in ophthalmic techniques have made cataract surgery virtually painless.
At Suman Eye Clinic, we prioritize patient comfort. Here is a detailed look at why the procedure is pain-free and what you will experience during the treatment.
1. Topical Anesthetic Eye Drops (No Needles)
Before the surgery begins, our medical team applies strong numbing eye drops (topical anesthesia) to the surface of your eye. These drops temporarily block all pain receptors. As a result, you do not need to undergo painful local anesthetic injections around the eye.
2. What You Will Experience During the Procedure
Because of the numbing drops, you will not feel any sharp pain, cutting, or burning. Instead, you may feel:
- A mild sensation of pressure or touch as the micro-instruments are used.
- A cooling flow of sterile fluids around the eye.
- A display of bright colors or lights as the surgeon works.
Our surgical team communicates with you throughout the 10-to-15-minute daycare procedure to ensure you remain relaxed and comfortable.
3. Post-Operative Sensations
As the numbing drops wear off after surgery, you may experience:
- A mild gritty or scratchy sensation, as if an eyelash is caught in your eye.
- Slight watering and sensitivity to light.
These mild symptoms are normal and usually fade within 24 to 48 hours. Most patients do not require any oral pain relievers, but we prescribe soothing eye drops to help minimize discomfort during recovery.
Safe and Sutureless Phaco Surgery
By using micro-incision phacoemulsification (MICS) technology, Suman Eye Clinic avoids the need for stitches. A smaller incision heals faster, reduces the risk of inflammation, and ensures a comfortable recovery. There is no reason to let the fear of pain delay restoring your clear vision.
